A BINGLEY resident has enjoyed spending her competition winnings in Otley.

Kate Lawson won a £30 voucher to spend in the town through a ShopAppy.com contest run on Facebook.

The 'shop local' website, which launched in Otley (and Saltaire) last November, lets customers choose and reserve items from shops in the town and pick them up from a single collection point.

Kate, who collected her purchases from The Otley Tavern, said: "I learnt about ShopAppy after seeing an article on The One Show on BBC 1 so I started following it on Facebook, entered the competition and won!

"It's really good supporting local businesses.

"With the money I shopped at Cranberry, Courtyard Planters, Casa Vitae and The Real Food Shop to purchase local veg, plants, a loose tea strainer and baked goods.

"As it was my first purchase the businesses included some extras - including cut flowers, daffodil bulbs and loose tea - along with lovely comment cards, thanking me for the business.

"I really appreciated the personal touch that you don't get from supermarkets or chain businesses.

"The visit to Otley also prompted us to visit other shops including The Curious Hop, a local craft beer shop."

ShopAppy.com founder Jackie Mulligan added: "There is such a great range of products and shops in Otley and ShopAppy.com is helping open up that 'shop window' to entice visitors and shoppers from within and outside the town.

"The independent businesses on the site are a real credit to the town, helping each other to attract shoppers to Otley.”

She added that the BBC coverage had sparked interest from more than 100 other towns across the UK - and that the site will be launching new locations in the coming weeks.
