CROWDS of visitors have enjoyed a two-day photographic exhibition at Otley Parish Church.

Otley Camera Club staged the event, its first ever all-weekend display, at All Saints on Saturday, April 1 and Sunday, April 2.

The exhibition featured some of the finest recent examples of members' work spanning a variety of subjects, from people and pet portraits to moody landscapes and artistic, abstract shots.

Club members were kept busy on both days as a steady stream of visitors arrived to admire the work - and give plenty of compliments about its quality.

The display was declared officially open by Town Mayor Councillor Ian Jackson - himself a camera club member - and Otley Bellman Terry Ford.

Club member Mary Thorpe said she was delighted with what had been a hectic but 'great' weekend.

She said: "The Parish Church was a wonderful venue for the exhibition, giving those who came along the opportunity to see the talents of many members in a welcoming space, as well as room and time to chat and ask questions.

"A wide variety of photographs showcased the skills and talents of members, and a DVD of photographs by members past and present was on show in the café area throughout both days.

"Some of the photographs on the DVD are of events which have taken place in Otley over the past few years, and show residents as they have enjoyed them.

"Comments left in the Visitors’ Book were complimentary about the images and also about the hospitality - and quality of the cakes!"

Organised by Diane Murrell, the display also raised more than £500 for two local good causes - Otley and District Talking Newspaper and the Askwith Kid’s Shed project.

Mrs Thorpe added: "The event was the first time the club had organised an exhibition lasting a weekend, and it is hoped more visitors will come to our Annual Exhibition later in the year, which takes place over a month.

"It has been encouraging to hear that new members may be coming to the club as a result of this exhibition."

The event was free to enter, but also included a paid-for cheese and wine reception on the Saturday night.
