A WHARFEDALE MP has been promoting Yorkshire - and Otley - as a tourist destination.

Greg Mulholland (Lib Dem, Leeds North West) teamed up with the Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, Sir Gary Verity, to sing the region's praises during English Tourism Week.

Mr Mulholland, who became an Honorary Ambassador for Otley in February, said: "I was delighted to promote English Tourism Week with Visit England and Welcome to Yorkshire.

"Areas like ours are exactly those that, as the local MP, I want to make sure everybody knows about.

"This is also why I was so proud to be made one of the first Otley Ambassadors, tasked with promoting the town and the area and I am delighted to do this.

"Tourism is hugely important to Yorkshire which is one of the best places for tourism - not only in England but worldwide.

"Lower Wharfedale and Otley may be less well known than the nearby Yorkshire Dales, York or Leeds but the new Otley tourism strategy will reach out to many more potential visitors and promote the area.

"Whether for a day trip or a stay of several nights, Otley and the surrounding area has a lot to offer and I hope more and more people will visit and enjoy the place for themselves."
