THE SECOND of a series of fundraising mini-dances in Menston takes place this weekend - and has already sold out.

The dances for children are being run by resident and mum Jessica Blyth for Cancer Research UK and Breast Cancer Haven.

Jessica's first mini dance, held at High Royds Social Club in March, was also a sell-out and raised more than £2,000 for the charities.

The same venue is set to be packed again on Saturday, April 8 when some dozens of children - aged from four to ten - will be led by the Guiseley-based West Yorkshire School of Performing Arts.

The cause is a personal one for 37 year old Jessica who was diagnosed with breast cancer last summer and has been helped in her recovery by Yorkshire Breast Cancer Haven.

She said: "Sadly cancer seems to touch most people at some point in their lives.

"Due to my own recent experiences and those of my friends we decided it was time to raise some money for some worthwhile charities whilst having as much fun as we could.

"The support in the community for this event has been huge and we are very grateful to everyone who has donated time, money or support to the Mini Dance."

The dances are being backed by a number of local businesses, including the venue, plus two local DJs and residents who are helping at each event.

There have also been several high-profile auction or raffle prize donations.

Those included a signed, framed Leeds Rhinos shirt from local resident Dave Singleton; a ball donated by Bradford City's Billy Clark signed by the team; and a signed copy of the Kaiser Chiefs' latest album donated by the band via Menston-based estate agents Ribston Pippin.
