STUDENTS from five schools have enjoyed an insight into the world of Oxbridge during a visit to Otley.

More than 50 high-achieving pupils from schools in the Red Kite Alliance gathered at Prince Henry's Grammar School for the event.

The Oxbridge Information Evening was led by Dr Richard Earl from Worcester College, Oxford and allowed the Sixth Formers to talk to current and former Cambridge and Oxford University students.

The discussions covered everything from medicine and teaching to college life, insights into individual courses and 'life after Oxbridge'.

Year 12 student Ellen Wardman said: "It was a great opportunity not only to learn from other students’ experiences but also to ask people who work there questions too."

Head of Sixth Form at Prince Henry’s, Claire Willis, added: "The extra curricular opportunities we can offer our students are a very important part of Sixth Form life.

"High-achieving students such as these may not have had the chance to find out what life at Oxford and Cambridge is really like and this event gave them the opportunity to dig deep into it, with people who know it inside out."

Prince Henry's is a founding member of the The Red Kite Teaching School Alliances, a partnership of Yorkshire schools and institutions set up so its members can share their skills, experience and talent.

Sixth Form students at the school also benefit from trips and talks to universities across the country and careers fairs, along with guidance on universities, apprenticeships and employment opportunities.
