VOLUNTEERS of all ages have been out litter picking in Bramhope.

An 18 strong team, comprising 11 adults and seven children, took advantage of last weekend's sunny weather to tidy up the village.

The group was led by Bramhope in Bloom whose Chairman, Janet Hobson, was accompanied by her grandson Sam Gordon.

She said: "In the main village area there was a lot less litter than in previous years but it was a different story on the main road from the Puritan Chapel down to the Dyneley Arms.

"Sam and I picked up two full bags from there which included three wheel trims, car body parts, a metal carpet strip, a plastic visor, a wire American type baseball visor, a dustpan, and various bottles and cans.

"We couldn't carry the wheel and gearbox we found - nor the toilet placed behind a wall! It is incredible what people will toss out if their vehicles."

Other volunteers, meanwhile, collected four bags of rubbish from the Old Lane / Moor Road area.

Janet added: "Bramhope in Bloom is grateful for everyone's' efforts.

"Our aim is to make Bramhope a lovely place to live."
