THE 2017 Otley Carnival Queen has been chosen.

Hannah Pears, a pupil at The Whartons Primary School, will succeed current Queen Olivia Bradford in the role on Carnival Day - Saturday, June 17.

Hannah was picked at a Queens Evening, held last Friday, March 10, along with her attendants for the coming year.

They include her deputy, Westgate Primary pupil Maisy Dixon, attendants Ellie Whitaker and Molly Broadbent (from The Whartons) and crown bearer Niamh Casey, from St Joseph's Catholic Primary.

A Carnival Committee spokesman said: "We wish the new Carnival Queen Elect and her team a successful year.

"I am sure they will serve our town well.

"We would like to thank the judges we gave up their Friday evening - a big thanks to Anne and Colin Whiers, Betty Syril and Sandra Jones.

"We would also like to thank Stephen H Smith’s Garden Centre for sponsoring the Queens Evening - sponsorship means more money that is raised can be given to the 2017 beneficiaries."

Proceeds from this year's carnival will be shared between Otley Parish Church Bell Restoration Appeal, Otley Skate Park Users Group and Otley Science Festival.
