WORK to replace broken paving slabs in Otley has been delayed..

A number of badly cracked footpath slabs beside the sheltered housing complex at Bennett Court have been posing a hazard for residents for some time.

As reported in February, the issue was raised by local councillors with Leeds City Council who were due to replace or repair the damaged stones.

Officers who visited the Weston Estate site, however, discovered that many more slabs were also cracked and are now seeking authorisation to carry out a larger repair scheme.

Councillor Ryk Downes (Lib Dem, Otley & Yeadon) said: "Officers went out to look at it the day after it was raised and saw that it wasn't just a couple of slabs that needed attention.

"A lot more need doing as the roots from just about every tree along there seem to be pushing up and cracking the stones.

"So they're now waiting on a work order but it's in hand and we're chasing it."
