AN OTLEY fundraiser has publicly thanked those who came to her aid after suffering a fall.

Liz Heffer broke her nose and hurt her mouth after falling on Mercury Row, just outside the Chevin Barber shop, on Thursday, January 5.

She was helped by a passing couple who took her into the barbers - where a man who had just had his hair cut turned out to be a paramedic.

Mrs Heffer said: "I was bleeding quite a bit from my nose.

"The couple who got me to my feet and took me in to the barbers were from Hawsworth but I didn't get their names, unfortunately.

"They were so kind - as was the paramedic, who did a great job.

"The couple then walked me to my hairdressers, Christine Mawson's, on Bridge Street where I was due to have my hair done but I was in no fit state for that.

"I would like to express my grateful thanks to everyone who helped."

Mrs Heffer, who helped found the Otley Area Friends group for Martin House Children's Hospice with her late husband, Vic, was seen by the Charles Street GP surgery.

She was then sent to Wharfedale Hospital which confirmed their diagnosis of a broken nose, and has received treatment at Leeds General Infirmary.
