AFTER the success of the raffle at the Totally Locally Addingham Christmas Market this year, members of the village group were thrilled to present a cheque for £400 to Paul Smithson, of the Alzheimer’s Society and Jon Shaw who has been working within the village to promote the work of the Alzheimer’s Society and raise the profile of Dementia Friendly in Addingham.

"This is a disease that affects so many people in the village and we feel very strongly that as a group there is so much that we can do and be aware of, to try and create more Dementia Friendly shops and businesses," said Sarah Mayo one of the organisers, "and anything we can do to help make our community more Dementia Friendly by supporting those affected by dementia and their families is so important."

Members of the Totally Locally Addingham group met with Jon a few months ago, for a training and awareness session on the daily challenges faced by families affected by dementia. More training and information sessions will be organised over the next year in Addingham.

If you would like to get involved, be able to get more information on Alzheimer’s and being Dementia Friendly or need support then contact the Alzheimer’s Society via the information on their website or get in touch locally with Jon Shaw on 07799695548 or at jonrshaw17@gmail.com
