A CHARITY coffee morning at the Cornerstone Cafe in Menston raised money for a number of different charities this month.

The community cafe, which is attached to Menston Methodist Church, divides its surplus equally each year between the church and charity. In the nine years since the cafe opened it has made nearly £60,000.

The charities which have been supported this year include: Martin House Hospice, the Haiti disaster fund, Upper Wharfedale Mountain Rescue, War Child, Crisis, Prodigal House and the Menston dementia initiative.

The cafe is staffed totally by volunteers - some 80 of whom work once a fortnight or once a month. A spokesman for the cafe said: "We are always looking for new volunteers and would love to hear of anybody in the Menston area who feels they could spare just a little time in helping with the running of the cafe. Equally important, of course, is the welcome that we try to give to everybody coming for a chat and light refreshments in very pleasant surroundings."

The cafe is open on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 10am until 1.30pm and on Saturday mornings from 10am until noon.
