THE resignation of Ilkley Parish Council councillor Claire Darling means there will be a by-election in the Ilkley South seat on January 5, 2017.

The Ilkley Labour Party has selected Ilkley resident and former Ilkley Grammar School student Hamish Yewdall as their candidate.

Henri Murison, chairman of Ilkley Labour Party said: "The Labour Party members here in Ilkley have selected Hamish Yewdall to be our candidate in the by-election. Hamish has lived in Ilkley nearly all his life and wants to see a Parish Council that works for the whole community. On issues like parking around the town centre and the station, and supporting efforts to get Ilkley and surrounding areas their own Member of Parliament, he would be a positive voice for the type of change we need."

Hamish Yewdall, 24, said: "I want to increase awareness around mental health, and help build a strong local economy. I also wants to be a voice for residents. I look forward to spending the Christmas period campaigning and talking to local people."
