ONE of the first owners of a home at a new luxury retirement complex in Otley has been talking about what attracted her to the town.

Joyce Scott, who will move into Adlington House when it opens on October 27, is from Essex but wanted to move to Yorkshire to be closer to her family.

Her son, who lives in Baildon, is a regular visitor to Otley and had spotted notices about the development, off Bridge Street, so he passed the details on to his mum.

Mrs Scott then investigated further before visiting the show apartments and taking the decision to buy a two-bedroom home.

She says the riverside location and the availability of on-site, 24 hour care were big factors in that decision.

She said: "My husband and I were talking about moving closer to family a few years ago, but there wasn’t anywhere of this quality whilst we were looking.

"My husband passed away two years ago, leaving me on my own to care for myself.

"I was quite concerned about staying in Essex as, out of all of my friends, I am the fittest so should anything ever happen there would be no-one I could call on for support.

"The 24-hour care provided by MHA at Adlington House was a real selling point for me.

"I’ve also lived next to the River Thames all my life and it is very rare you can gain access because it is fenced off, but at Adlington House I can walk by the river, it really is a fantastic location."

She is also full of praise for the size and style of its two-bedroom apartment and its view.

She added: "I can’t wait to get settled in and look forward to my first Christmas in my new place."

Adlington House consists of 48 apartments - with a mixture of one, two and three bedrooms - along with other facilities including a table service restaurant, hair salon and gardens.
