A MEETING has taken place to discuss improvements to Guiseley's Christmas lights.

The meeting, at the end of September was described as "very productive" by the area's MP Stuart Andrew.

A festive event was held in September to raise money for lights to help ensure Guiseley puts on a good show over Christmas.

The event was organised by a small team of residents along with Mr Andrew and ward councillors Graham and Pat Latty.

The town's Christmas lights have been a cause of concern for some time and in 2013 they were described as "stark and dismal" by one resident who wrote to the Wharfedale Observer to complain.

That criticism came three years after Leeds City Council decided to stop funding festive decorations in the outlying areas. After that decision ward councillors funded some lights around Rawdon and Guiseley, spending around £6,000 each year.
