WESTVILLE House School in Ilkley has been celebrating the Harvest with an assembly of readings and song.
Attended by parents, grandparents and friends, the children, from as young as two years of age, put on a wonderful display of knowledge about autumn and sang beautiful harvest songs.
Each child had decorated a shoe box and filled it with food produce to be distributed to the Ilkley Food Bank. The boxes created a ‘sea’ of food that the children very much hope will benefit others.
Headmaster Mr Ian Shuttleworth congratulated the children on a tremendous performance and thanked all the staff for a brilliant assembly. He added: “The children have made some beautiful food boxes and clearly taken a lot of time and care to make them extra special. We are sure that they will be put to good use by the Ilkley Food Bank. The children clearly enjoyed creating the ‘human chain’ to load the vast quantity of boxes and had a clear understanding of the need to help other people. This reflects the fundamental British values part of the curriculum which is so important."
