SOME of the leading business professionals speaking at Ilkley's Thrive Yorkshire Business Growth Conference have got together to produce a list of top tips for small businesses.

The tips are an insight into what to expect on the day from the likes of keynote speaker Kate Hardcastle, of Insight with Passion, talking about Putting the #OOMPH in your business, Jennifer Holloway, of Spark Branding, sharing her knowledge on People buy people, but are they buying you?, Joe Carnell, of U-Got telling his story on how he became Lloyds Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2015 and John Tate and John Hewitt, of Ilkley Cinema sharing the story of Ilkley Cinema and how they turned their dream into a reality.

Speaker Top Tips:

Tip 1. “Two ears, one mouth and use it in that order please!” (Kate Hardcastle)

Tip 2. “The effort you put in should always be equal to, or less than, the benefit you get out. Otherwise, you shouldn't be doing it.” (Jennifer Holloway)

Tip 3. “I am a firm believer that you make your own luck. If you want something to happen you need to take a course of action to generate that outcome, or at the very least substantially increase the likelihood of that outcome being generated.” (Chris Allen)

Tip 4. “Design a great customer journey, track your success and train on your weaknesses” (Ruth Whiteley)

Tip 5. “No one person is bigger than the business” - focusing on the fact that all decision making must be commercial and not emotional. Even as an entrepreneur you have a job to do, you still work for the business and must ensure you have the business at your forefront of you decision making, not personal gains.” (Joe Carnell)

Tip 6. “Your best USP (unique selling point) is you, so don't just sell what you do, sell who you are alongside it.” (Jennifer Holloway)

The conference is being opened by Sir Gary Verity from Welcome to Yorkshire and in addition to the four Yorkshire based speakers, there will also be six further workshops that delegates can attend. These include the likes of Ruth Whiteley, former Apprentice star (Impact Sales Training) and the return of the popular Chris Allen, Managing Partner at Blacks Solicitors.
