OTLEY'S MP is backing a campaign to increase organ donation in Yorkshire.
The Be A Hero campaign is aiming to get more people than ever to sign up to be an organ donor - and made a special push during this month's National Organ Donation Week.
Be A Hero was launched last July by Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and saw 42,000 residents sign up within its first five months. The number of people waiting for a transplant has since fallen by 100, to just over 700.
MP Greg Mulholland (Lib Dem, Leeds North West), who has signed the organ donor register himself, said: "With an average of three people dying every day in this country whilst waiting for a transplant, it is vital that more people sign the organ donor register.
"I would encourage everyone to sign up at organdonation.nhs.uk.
"Here in Yorkshire we are known for our strong sense of community - let’s put that into practice by helping the 700 people waiting for a transplant."
