WE’RE closing the summer with a bang at Ilkley Cinema, reaching dizzying heights and embarking on epic adventures from August 26 to September 1. So don’t be blue that the holidays are nearly over, we have a few tricks up our sleeve to keep the whole family entertained.

In a continuing series of live action Disney remakes, Pete’s Dragon comes almost forty years after the original musical, with a new twist on the story. When the eponymous Pete finds himself alone in the woods after his parents die in a car accident, it seems all hope is lost when a pack of wolves close in. Luckily a friendly, green furry dragon comes to the rescue and takes the child in as his own.

Six years later, Pete is found by park ranger Jack and his family and they all wonder how he has survived in the woods for so long on his own. When Pete reveals he has been far from alone, Elliot’s existence is endangered. Believing the dragon to be dangerous, local hunter Gavin gathers an armed force to capture Elliot and it’s up to Pete and his new friends to make sure he remains safe.

We also join Ricky Gervais on his hilarious journey to become a rockstar in David Brent: Life on the Road. Less than content with his day to day job as a sales rep, Brent turns his sights to a life of fame, touring with his new band Foregone Conclusion. Also back for another week is Matt Damon’s latest outing as ex CIA assassin Jason Bourne. Recovered from amnesia and now in hiding, Bourne wants to discover the truth about his past.

Finally, for all orchestral aficionados and live music lovers, we have the opening concert of the 2016/2017 season of the Berliner Philharmoniker on August 26th. With chief conductor Sir Simon Rattle leading us through an audible feast of Gustav Mahler's brilliant Symphony No. 7 and Pierre Boulez’s Éclat, this is certainly an unmissable event.
