ELDERLY people dabbled in art for the first time since leaving school when they took part in a painting workshop.

The oldest attendee at the event was aged more than 90.

Carol Warneford, from Guiseley Art Club, took the workshop with a group from AVSED (Aireborough Voluntary Services to the Elderly with Disabilities), most of whom hadn't painted since their schooldays.

Carol said: "This was a first for AVSED, but judging by the enthusiasm of the group, it will not be the last."

Volunteer Eileen Wilshaw, who organises the activities, said: "Nearly all the members got involved in some way and the group produced some very attractive pieces of work.

"Ella Baxter, an employee of AVSED, has her eye on a couple of pieces, which she will put up in the new AVSED office in Nunroyd Cricket Club's premises. AVSED is hoping to move to its new premises in the summer.

"It is always in need of help, and if you can donate and or spare some time to help at with activity events, contact AVSED via its avsed.org.uk website."
