ILKLEY retirement village Abbeyfield The Dales played host to a contingent of social workers and psychologists from Belgium.

They were given a tour of Grove House and Holme Lea.

Area housing manager, Clare Hobbins, said: "They wanted to look the facilities offered here in the UK for the elderly as they do not have anything like this in Belgium.

"They were welcomed to Grove House by Jackie Bradfield, chief executive officer for Abbeyfield The Dales, and whilst enjoying a very British afternoon tea, they were given a short talk about the history and ethos of the Abbeyfield model.

"After a whistle-stop tour of Grove House, they were taken on the short walk to look at Holme Lea, which was in the middle of a garden party for residents. The Belgian party were made very welcome by residents, friends and family and enjoyed partaking in the raffle.

"We then returned to Grove House, where the bus was waiting to take the Belgian party to their next destination in Peterborough. A very successful visit and a triumph for Anglo-Belgian relations!"
