A TEACHER at Hawksworth C of E Primary School retires tomorrow after teaching at the school for 36 years.

Caroline Garnett, 65, who everyone at the school calls Mrs G, started at Hawksworth in January 1980.

She was Miss Duffield then and taught the reception and year one children in class one. However, as the years went on she found her true forte, teaching the older children in years five and six.

A school spokesman said: "All current and past parents agree most children are wary when first going into Mrs G's class as she is very keen on discipline and good manners, but they all come to love her.

"She can very quickly assess a child's weaknesses and strong points and works tirelessly to make 'her children' good citizens, who are well-mannered, self-confident and willing to take on responsibility."

A special assembly was held in school, where each of the four classes at Hawksworth presented their memories of Mrs G in words, pictures and songs. Mrs G received presents from staff, parents and governors, including luggage and gardening equipment, as Mrs G plans to do more gardening in her retirement, travelling and possibly taking up pottery again.

Mrs G would be delighted to see any past pupils or parents if they wish to call in at Hawksworth school this week.
