MENSTON Summer Fair will be at Menston Primary School on July 2 from 2pm to 4.30pm.

The event is organised by St John's Church and it will be opened by Look North's Charlotte Leeming, with lots of traditional stalls and games.

Winners of the Menston and Burley Young Poet of the Year and Menston and Burley Young Short Story Writer of the Year will be announced at the fair, and some of the winning pieces will be read by their authors.

The Buttercross Belles from Otley will be performing and music will be provided by Hurricane Blue.

The event is to raise money for three charities: Tiyanjane Clinic in Malawi, run by Dr Jane Bates, daughter of a member of St John's congregation, providing palliative care and support for patients with HIV/Aids and other problems; a health care project in Myanmar (Burma) run by Us (one of the main Anglican Mission Agencies working overseas, previously known as USPG) and the Otley Christian Resources Hub, which runs the Open the Book Project. Under this project, a team of amateur thespians from St John’s goes into Menston Primary School each week and helps bring to life some of the well-known Bible stories for Key Stage One children.

Entry to the summer fair is free and entry is from St Peter's Way.
