LAST week saw the culmination of several rounds of the Master Chef competition between Westville House School children with budding culinary talents.
Many of the Year 6 children at the Ilkley school spent a long time preparing mouth-watering menus, which were cooked in the school kitchens and then served to local chefs.
The final, held earlier this week, saw 11-year-olds Orla Kleppen and Poppy Ibbetson battling it out to be crowned Westville MasterChef 2016.
Orla produced a menu of bruschetta followed by paella with chicken and chorizo. This very narrowly beat Poppy's menu of roasted tomato soup followed by creamy steak and spinach.
The judges for the final were all experienced local chefs, and they were astounded by the levels achieved by all the contestants.
Head chefs from Bistro Saigon, Bistrot Pierre and the manager from the Craven Heifer all spent time during a three-week period watching the contestants at work, assessing their menus and, of course, tasting the fabulous results.
Westville House headteacher, Ian Shuttleworth, said: "This was an inspirational Masterchef final.
"The children have set the standard exceptionally high and the judges were all undoubtedly impressed. I really hope the children continue to cook – they are clearly extremely talented."
