SCOUTS and Cubs will be supporting Otley's first grand charity duck race.

The event, sponsored by luxury independent living providers Adlington, takes place on Saturday.

One thousand yellow rubber ducks are poised to sail down the River Wharfe in the fundraiser at Wharfemeadows Park, which starts at 11am.

Adlington will be selling £1 tickets, with all proceeds going to the race's six beneficiaries – Bramhope Scouts and Cubs, Otley Action for Older People, and Otley Carnival's beneficiaries, Yorkshire Cancer Research, Wheatfields Hospice and Behind Closed Doors.

Bramhope Scouts leader, Paul Arbon, said: “We were delighted to help support Otley’s charity duck race.

"The Scouts, Cubs and Beavers are always keen to help out with community events and were more than happy to help spread the news."

Cub leader, Debbie Arbon, added: "We’re honoured to be chosen as one of the race beneficiaries, alongside some excellent causes.

"We’ll be out in full force on the day and collecting additional donations to help support our community."

The owner of the first duck to cross the finish line will receive £100 worth of Amazon vouchers, with second and third place receiving £50 and £25 vouchers respectively.

Tickets can also be purchased from Adlington’s marketing suite in Bridge Street, by the River Wharfe, which is open from 10am to 5pm, Tuesday to Saturday.

The company's multi-million pound Otley complex, Adlington House, overlooks the river and is due to be completed by November.
