GET 'quacking' is the message from the organisers of the 2016 Burley-in-Wharfedale Duck Race.

They have sold more ducks than ever in advance of the annual village fundraiser on June 5.

The race, which sees hundreds of yellow plastic ducks released into the River Wharfedale to race downstream on the current to the finish line, will raise money for Burey Playground Project and the Burley Scouts and Guides new headquarters appeal this year, in addition to organiser, Burley Community Trust.

Burley-in-Wharfedale Community Trust chairman, Duncan Ault, said: "We’ve also recruited another 500 ducks, so we’ll have a record 3,000 ducks competing to win!

"We’re urging people to buy their ducks as soon as possible to avoid missing out.”

The event takes place at 2pm on June 5, on the riverside east of Burley.

The race costs £1 per duck to enter, with cash prizes up for grabs, and will be followed by teas on the village green.

The Community Trust provides services and facilities to benefit the community. It organises the village's Christmas lights, hanging baskets and also recently completed a major project to revamp the area at the junction of Station Road and Main Street to provide an attractive focal point, with tables and chairs for residents and visitors.

As part of this, they also refurbished the Fountain of Life, a well-loved Burley landmark.

In addition to fundraising events, the Community Trust also operates a membership scheme, where Burley residents can support the work of the trust. Renewals are now due for the 2016/17 membership year. Visit burley-in-wharfedale.org/communitytrust for more details.
