A GROUP of Scandinavian Leeds United fans have enjoyed a pubs-focused trip to Otley.

Jone Moen and six of his friends from Stavanger, in Norway, were in the area last week to see the football club in action twice at Elland Road.

They had decided to spend a few days of their trip based outside the city itself, and Jone chose Otley after spotting references to its 20 pubs – promoted by Otley Pub Club – online.

He went on to actually join the club and met up with a couple of its committee members.

The Norwegian visitors stayed at the Black Horse Hotel during their time in the town, and also sampled the ales on offer at the Black Bull, when they watched the pub being featured on the Hairy Bikers' new TV show.

They managed to squeeze in a visit to Wharfebank Brewery at Pool-in-Wharfedale, too, which MD Martin Kellaway opened up so they could enjoy a special tour.

Otley Pub Club secretary, Bob Brook, said: "They headed back into Leeds impressed by the friendliness of all the people they had met in all the pubs, and vowing to tell all their friends back home to pay Otley a visit when they are over in England."
