ILKLEY councillors have warned there will be no 'rescue package' despite talks to set up a trust to run the historic Manor House.

Ilkley Parish Council heard on Monday night that an embryonic trust is in talks with Bradford Council about the future of the former museum and art gallery in Castle Yard.

Owner Bradford Council has held off on plans to sell the iconic building pending talks with the recently formed organisation, which consists of a number of prominent Ilkley figures and groups.

Parish council chairman, Cllr Brian Mann, said discussions have included plans for a "substantial" development of the entire site.

But other councillors expressed concern that the impression may be given Ilkley Parish Council is committing its own funds to the project.

Several members asked for it to be made clear the council has not agreed to provide financial backing.

Cllr Mike Ridgway said: "I'd like to make it quite clear at this stage that there's no financial commitment."

And Cllr Mike Gibbons also warned the trust's proposed development is going to be a long process.

"It's not going to happen tomorrow," he said.
