A PUBLIC demonstration against link road proposals for Leeds Bradford Airport will take place in Horsforth this weekend.

The protest, which is also protesting against airport expansion, sets off from Horsforth Hall Park at 10.30am on Saturday.

Details of the event have been tweeted by the UK Greenbelt Guards, a national Facebook community group for greenbelt campaigners.

A Leeds City Council (LCC) consultation on three options to improve connectivity to Leeds Bradford Airport is being carried out until February 26.

The options – costing between £15 million and £75 million – include two link road proposals. The cheapest option would involve upgrading existing roads.

The proposals have proved controversial and have been attacked by MPs, councillors and local greenbelt campaigners. They argue LCC should be exploring an alternative option of developing a rail link instead.

But LCC officers have defended its plans, and is stressing the schemes will not only improve road access to the airport but will also reduce congestion on the A65 and A658 Harrogate Road.
