A PHOTOGRAPHIC exhibition has helped to raise money for Yeadon Sailing Club.

More than 300 people visited the display, Aireborough – An Oasis in God’s Own County, by local photographer Darren Sanderson.

Leeds North West MP Greg Mulholland was one of those attending the event at the sailing club on Sunday, January 24.

Proceeds from the exhibition, including 20 per cent of all orders placed on the day are being donated towards a new clubhouse and training facilities for the organization.

Members of voluntary organization, Aireborough Voice, were on hand to answer questions about the area.

Mr Mulholland said: "Darren Sanderson’s outstanding work showcases the beauty and drama of Aireborough. His kind contribution to the Yeadon Sailing Club’s New Clubhouse Project will make a difference in the Aireborough community, as it will ultimately assist in improving sports facilities in the area. With a new clubhouse, Yeadon Sailing Club will be able to increase its provision of outdoor activities and education, which will in turn promote the benefits of a healthy lifestyle to more local people.”

Mr Sanderson said: "The exhibition was a very positive event and very well attended."

Yeadon Sailing Club Commodore Bob Bootson added: "I am delighted that Greg came along and showed his support for Aireborough Voice and Yeadon Sailing Club.

"Greg was interested to hear about the history of the club and the members’ achievements. We have had Under 16’s champions, Round The World sailors, trans-Atlantic sailors and those who have competed at elite world class level. Yeadon Sailing Club is about much more than sailing a dinghy around a small lake.

"Greg was impressed with how well the club is and the low cost of the training sessions that we offer. He has agreed to come and visit our training sessions on a Tuesday evening during Parliamentary recess periods. We are very grateful that Greg is taking time outside of work to do this.

"There were over 300 people in attendance on Sunday. They were all interested to hear how the sailing club is developing.”

"We are trying to increase our presence in the community. We are a sporting facility for the community, not an exclusive club for members only."
