OTLEY Cycle Club has honoured its top performers at its annual awards evening.

Cyclists of all ages were presented with trophies - in recognition of their accomplishments during 2015 - at Otley Golf Club last week.

Club President Peter Middlebrooke compered the proceedings, which saw 64 awards in total handed out.

The winners included:

l Tom Cullen – 14 mile Hilly Time Trial Champion, Fastest Man 12.5 mile Pool Triangle, Open Hill Climb Champion, Young Men’s British Cycling Points Champion, and also won a Young People’s Gold Award.

l Claire Jessop – 25 mile Time Trial Women’s Champion, 30 mile Time Trial Women’s Champion, Senior Women’s Best All Rounder and 10 mile Time Trial Women’s Champion

l Helen Goldthorpe – 14 mile Hilly Time Trial Women’s Champion, Fastest Woman 12.5 mile Pool Triangle, Open Hill Climb Women’s Champion; and

l 24 Hour Time Trial Champion Andrew Davies, who clocked up over 310 miles in 24 hours.

Other notable winners included James Cullen, who received the Track Champion Award from his brother, Ian, who he beat by one place in the last race; and Gareth Metcalfe, the Senior Best All Rounder.

The Club Person of the Year Award was shared between Claire Peacock, for all her support work for the coaching sessions, and Martin Tallontire for arranging the racing calendar, website and Twitter account.

Eighty two year old Peter Yates, meanwhile, was awarded the Veteran All Rounder (40 and Over) award on the basis of time trials - using the age standard handicap – over ten, 25 and 50 miles.

Mr Middlebrooke said: "This has been a remarkable season for Peter, with three new club records set at the age of 82."

He also hailed the achievements of the growing number of young members, adding: "They are, without doubt, the future of the club and their numbers continue to increase."

Among the younger winners were Emily Middlebrooke, Isobel Wilks, Poppy Peacock and Daniel Middlebrooke, who received an Under 12s Gold Award; and Under 16s Gold Award winners Tom Cullen, Megan Cullen, Joe Howcroft, Ryan Middlemiss and Robbie Pollard.

Megan Cullen emerged triumphant as the Young Women’s British Cycling Points Champion, also winning the Fastest Junior Woman Walshford Course and Young People’s Gold Award.

Eleven new trophies were provided by club sponsors this year: The Keith Webb Men’s 10 Mile Time Trial Trophy (Jon Sharpe); 14 Mile Hilly Time Trial – Handicap Award (Joe Howcroft); 30 Mile Women’s Champion – Howcroft Award (Claire Jessop); Integral FP 100 Mile TT Handicap (John Buddle); Billie Fleming Sporting Miles Women’s Champion (Ann Howe); True Cycling Sporting Miles Men’s Champion (Martin Tallontire); Otley Cycle Club Ride Team Volunteer Award, sponsored by Whiteghyll Plastics (Mike Blank); MAS Design Cyclo-Cross Points Champion (Joe Howcroft); Chevin Cycles Championship Points – Men’s (John Buddle); and Otley Cycle Club Touring Award (Karen Spence).

The final presentation was a bouquet of flowers for Awards Co-ordinator Christine Bell, who is stepping down after organising the event for three years.
