AUTHOR and actress Anna Hope will speak at an event in Ilkley about her new book, based on the experiences of her great-grandfather.

The Ballroom, set in 1911 at Menston asylum – later High Royds Hospital – is Anna's second novel.

Her first, Wake, was set at the end of the First World War and examined the way in which that conflict, and its ending, affected the lives of a group of people who had lived through it.

She is also an actress and, before writing her two books, appeared in various TV productions. Fans of Doctor Who may know her better as Novice Hame, a humanoid cat who was one of the Sisters of Plenitude.

The evening with Anna Hope, which is being organised by The Grove Bookshop, will take place at the Clarke Foley Centre in Cunliffe Road on February 22, starting at 7.30pm.

Tickets are £5, including wine, and are available from the shop. Call 01934 609335 or e-mail info@grovebookshop.com for details.
