Leeds City 3 Otley Town 0

TOWN’S lack of match action – this was only their second fixture in seven weeks – showed against one of the league’s best teams.

Their cause wasn’t helped by being without two of their regular back four players so Josh Waite, just back from injury, was asked to step in to the breach at centre back and Nikos Shiamtanis filled in the left back for the absent Greg Lake.

Town were set up in damage limitation mode and their opponents were quick to exploit a weakness on their left flank.

Chris Brodie brought off a magnificent one handed save to a point-blank header before Mitch Cameron opened the scoring from close range in the 16th minute.

Leeds continued to press but Otley frustrated their attempts to add a second goal.

They had to wait until early in the second half to go 2-0 up when poor defending allowed Cameron to ride weak challenges right across the 18-yard box before driving a daisy cutter inside Brodie’s right post.

Town changed formation and introduced 18-year-old Will Mullins and Tristan Holdsworth as substitutes.

Leeds countered with their three subs and ultimately held all the aces.

They crowned the afternoon off with a third goal from debutant Ciaran Mallon.

Best on the day for Town were Jamie Simms and keeper Brodie.
