THE sun came out for Boyle and Petyt Primary School's harvest show.

There was a good attendance and the tables were laden with baking, handicrafts, flowers, drawings and children’s items.

Opera singer Alexandra Lowe presented the prizes, along with a cheque for more than £2,000 - the proceeds of a concert she gave at the Priory Church - to headteacher Imogen Addy.

The money has been put towards the new classroom, which has just been erected at the Beamsley school.

Entertainment was provided for the children and, thanks to the fine and warm weather, the pet show and refreshments were held outside.

Trophy winners were: adult exhibit and best miscellaneous - Joan Mason; best children's exhibit and best junior exhibit - Ruby Gray; flowers, vegetables and most points in the junior section - Katherine Quinlan; kitchen produce - Gabi Renshaw; best infant exhibit - Theo Donne; best junior school exhibit - Molly Whitehead; best infant school exhibit - Maizie Dobson; best pre-school exhibit - Isla Ingham; pet show winner - guinea pigs Crackle and Pop; most points, adults - Margaret Cody; most points, infants - Sam Renshaw and Theo Donne; programme cover, juniors - Kitty Gray; programme cover, infants -Fergus Gray.
