AFTER a long summer break creative class Meet and Make returns to Ilkley's Clarke Foley Centre this month.

The class in an opportunity to meet and make things in cheerful and supportive company. Although small in its number of members it is very much loved by them. Class members have found themselves making garments they never thought possible and enjoying it too.

Margaret, who comes to the class from Otley, has found huge confidence and inspiration from class leader Lindsay Kitching. Lindsay teaches garment making from first principals, explaining the reasons behind all the techniques of dress making and tailoring. "I never thought I could do anything like this," said Margaret, "but Lindsay is such a good teacher that it all becomes possible. It’s a wonderful feeling to wear an outfit that I’ve designed, chosen the fabric for and made. I recommend it to anyone."

Both Lindsay and class members would like to welcome more people to the class. For encouragement Lindsay has mounted a display which is on view in the Clarke Foley Centre. It demonstrates the very wide range of needlecraft work in addition to dressmaking and tailoring that can be achieved with a bit of encouragement from an expert.

The class resumes on Wednesday, September 16 from 2pm to 4 pm at the Clarke Foley Centre.

The fee of £23 is subsidised for people over 50 under the Clarke Foley Centre’s charitable objects. Other people are welcome on payment of the non-subsidised fee of £46. The class runs weekly until Christmas and if sufficient people are interested will continue for a spring term next year.
