PATRIOTIC tunes will ring out on The Grove this weekend in the final instalment of music and entertainment for this year's Ilkley Summer Festival.

The Ilkley Parish Council-organised Concert on The Grove will again form the open-air grand finale to Ilkley Summer Festival.

The concert will feature and mix of music, including the ever-popular Last Night of the Proms style favourites.

This section of the concert will be extended this year, to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.

The concert will take place on The Grove on Saturday evening, (August 29), and the street will be closed to traffic for the evening.

Tickets for the concert were still available at the time of going to press.

This year's performers include saxophonist Dave Wilson. His solo Baker Street Review show covers a wide range of popular material, including soul, Motown, reggae and more.

He has performed before at both Ilkley's Concert on The Grove and Baildon Proms.

Another highlight of the night will be vocalist Gerry Soulful, who will perform classics from Nat King Cole, Paul Robeson and others.

The Marsden Silver Prize Band will make its return to Ilkley for this year's Concert on The Grove, leading the extended 'Proms' section of the concert.

Last Night favourites will be joined by tunes such as the Dam Busters March.

But the audience can also expect to hear a Beatles medley and a selection of Tom Jones songs.

Community singing on the night will be led by locally-based soprano, Elizabeth Frankland.

Organiser, Mike Gibbons, reminded everyone to dress for the weather.

"We hope for good weather - fingers crossed - and hope it'll be a good evening."

The concert begins at 7pm.

Tickets for the Concert on The Grove cost £14 and are available from Ilkley Visitor Information Centre, Ilkley Town Hall.
