BOLLYWOOD and Bhangra-style dance moves featured in this year's open day at Airedale Hospital.

More than 800 people of all ages turned out to the event last Thursday afternoon. (August 20)

Among the new attractions for 2015 were demonstrations staged by Chiragi Solanki, who held an Asian arts dance class for visitors at the hospital's education centre.

A spokesman for Airedale NHS Foundation Trust paid tribute to everyone who took part in the occasion.

"It was a huge success, much appreciated by the community and thank you to all who supported us," she added.

The public open day ran from noon until 4pm, in a marquee and at the education centre on the hospital site.

Visitors could have a go at treating a life-like medical mannequin, learn what happens in laboratories, or have free blood pressure or BMI tests.

They sampled more than 50 interactive stalls, offering fun for all the family including a saw bones game for people wanting to unleash their inner surgeon and a pedal-powered smoothie-making device.

Dramatically-inclined visitors had wound make-up put on – just like in the movies!

There was also an inflatable assault course, bike race challenges, Pets as Therapy, guide dogs a "Right Care zone" and free refreshments.

Other highlights were the ‘Sing from your Heart’ choir, fitness taster sessions, and a chance for people to receive health advice on a range of conditions including spotting the signs of breast cancer and caring for people with dementia.

Bridget Fletcher, chief executive of the foundation trust, said: “I'm delighted so many people have supported the hospital and come along to our open day event again this year.

"It's a great opportunity to showcase the work we do, and for people to find out about care we provide for our local community.

“We were lucky to have lovely weather, so families could make the most of the activities outside in the sunshine.

“Everyone has worked really hard to make sure that the event was fun, interactive and interesting. I would like to thank them all for making the day such a great success.”
