ILKLEY Charity Tweed Ride - the antithesis of last week's town centre races - took place on Saturday and saw elegantly dressed riders set out from The Grove to to travel to Weston Hall in Otley.

It was a Lycra free-zone - just stylish ladies and gentlemen, in tweed and natural fibres.

The riders enjoyed refreshments before setting off back to Ilkley and some fine post ride entertainment and prizes for the best dressed participants and best vintage bicycle.

Mark Verity, of the organising committee, said there was an excellent turnout and they were delighted with the response.

He said: "We were particularly indebted to Bettys for the tea and fondant fancies to set us on our way, to Abraham Moons for the lovely tweed jacket and shawl and Laura Hargreaves at the Touch Beauty Therapy at The Craiglands, for the sponsoring of the prizes, to the Ilkley Vaults for the hosting of the marquee, Lishmans for their lovely sausages and finally to Anna Leskala (a superb Finnish accordionist) and the Emily Brown Swing Quartet for pre and post ride musical entertainment.

"Spiffing!"

All money raised is for Macmillan nurses and the Nepal disaster relief fund.
