A CHARITY ball held annually in memory of an Addingham woman who died of breast cancer has raised almost £5,000 for good causes.

Nadia Shaw was just 33 when she lost her battle against the disease in 2011. She was a driving instructor and a nail technician, and also worked behind the bar of The Crown Inn in Addingham for many years.

Maria Wells, landlady of The Crown, Nadia’s sister Galina Harrison and friend Becky Shaw set up Nadia’s Wish in her memory to raise money for different causes which Nadia would have wanted to support, as well as Manorlands Hospice in Oxenhope, where Nadia died.

This year the charity committee decided to raise money for Cruse Bereavement Care in Skipton who provide support to people who have lost someone close to them. It is a volunteer service helping people deal with bereavement and has helped Nadia’s family and friends through some tough times.

As well as the May ball held in a marque at The Crown, there was also a beer festival on May 2 and 3 which proved to be a great success. The organising committee wishes to thank the generosity of local businesses who supported the event, which even attracted a visit from the Prime Minister, David Cameron.

More fundraising is planned with an auction of sports memorabilia and a raffle. People can also buy photographs taken on at the ball, with all money going to the charities.
