A WALKING enthusiast from Otley is celebrating striding into her 50th year with the same rambling club.

Lynne Noble marked her half century with Harrogate Rambling Club by - what else? - walking to the summit of Ingleborough, followed by a celebration party at the nearby hamlet of Cold Cotes.

She enjoyed the moment on June 17 with fellow club members who tucked into a specially decorated anniversary cake, canapes and champagne.

Lynne has had a deep love of walking all her life, and her affinity with the great outdoors has led her up many dramatic ridges in the Alps and to precarious places like the gabbro ridges of the Cuillins, on Skye.

Her first love remains, however, the Yorkshire Dales where she has in recent years performed voluntary work for the National Park.

She also regularly leads walking groups from Ilkley and Harrogate for the holiday organisation HF - and still chalks up about 40 miles a week.

She recalls that when she joined Harrogate Rambling Club in 1965 there was only one, Sunday walk available.

The club now offers a choice of five treks every Wednesday and Sunday. To find out more about the group visit http://www.harrogateramblingclub.org.uk/ .
