KATH Edmonds won't be pulling any punches when she takes to the boxing ring to raise money for breast cancer.

The company director, from Guiseley, is hoping to raise at least £300 for Macmillan Cancer Support when she battles it out at the Ladies Pink Collar Boxing event on Saturday, May 16.

Kath, 30, will be one of between 20 to 30 fighters in the ring at Village Urban Resort Leeds North.

She has put herself through an intensive training regime for the event but feels the cause is well worth fighting for - she has friends and family who have been helped by the charity, and her mum is a member of the Macmillan group in Otley.

Kath did a small amount of boxing when she was 17 and is now really getting to grips with the sport along with a team of women who are raising money for their own chosen charities.

She said: "The first part of it is actually about your fitness, and as a team we have bonded really well. But it is quite alarming when you actually start getting hit."

The competitors will be fighting for real on the night and will be wearing their gum shields and head guards.

"The people that you are sparing against are people that you are actually friends with now," Kath said. "But on the night it will be full steam ahead."

Kath, who is director of marketing company Amvoc, and a musician, has been taking part in an eight-week training regime in preparation for her charity boxing debut.

She is sponsored by TPL Media to take part in the event which normally attracts an audience of more than 400 people.

Pink Collar Boxing says so far more than 2,000 women have boxed with the organisation and have raised more than £130,000 for local and national charities.
