AN MP has demanded the Government be honest with the public over rising immigration and admit it cannot be controlled while Britain is still a member of the European Union.

With open borders across the EU, no-one can claim to be able to control numbers entering the UK, Shipley’s Conservative MP Philip Davies said.

Mr Davies, whose constituency includes Menston and Burley-in-Wharfedale, said: “The public want immigration controlled far better than it is at the moment but they also want some honesty over immigration too.

“The fact of the matter is that while everyone in the EU has free movement of people, we cannot guarantee the numbers coming into the country and we should not be making promises that we are in no position to be able to keep.”
