MORE than £2,800 has been awarded to community organisations in the latest round of Ilkley Parish Council Awards and Projects spending.

Three requests for awards were agreed by the town council’s awards and projects committee last week, including hundreds of pounds to help Ilkley in Bloom keep the town looking at its best.

The biggest award of £1,500 was made to Ilkley and District Arts Federation.

The Federation co-ordinates and promotes Ilkley Arts Festival each autumn, and the funding will be be going towards this event.

A further application for more than £7,000 of funding, made by Ilkley Art Trail, will go before a full meeting of the council on Monday, April 13, as the award proposed is more than £5,000.

A joint application by several Ilkley clubs, societies and charities was made for £660 — to pay for the annual cost of hosting and maintaining the community website Ilkley.org.

Councillors agreed to award the full amount requested.

The website features information for visitors and residents on services, organisations and events in the town, as well as hosting individual websites for local groups.

Meanwhile, Ilkley in Bloom requested £500 towards the cost of tools, new flowers and plants.

But councillors decided to give them a bigger award of £650, in order to support their work.

The money will be spent on replacement tools, new shrubs, and planting snowdrops at the junction of Church Street and Bridge Lane.
