THE Second Ilkley Guides based in Ben Rhydding and the Addingham Brownies have been busy making bunting for International Women’s Day Events in Ilkley.

Ilkley Soroptimists are marking International Women’s Day this year by holding a charity event in the town centre in aid of Walk in her Shoes, an initiative under the umbrella of Care International.

In the world’s poorest countries, women and girls have to spend their days walking for water. This daily trek prevents them from going to work or school, and means they can’t fulfil their potential.

The campaign aims to provide communities with safe water, which can bring health, education, improved personal safety, food security and a way to work out of poverty.

Ilkley Soroptimists will have an Continued on page two Continued from page one information stand at the bandstand on The Grove between 10am and 3pm on Saturday, March 7, and have invited local schools, youth groups and choirs to perform. There will be a charity cash collection in the town centre on this day in aid of the campaign.

This Wednesday Ilkley Soroptimists are inviting walkers to join them for a five-mile walk fromThe Old Bridge, Ilkley, at 9.30am.

The Soroptimists have chosen this distance as five miles or 10,000 steps is the average distance walked daily in the quest for water in the world’s poorest countries.

This is a free event. Make sure you wear suitable clothing and footwear. No need to book. Just turn up.
