NEAR misses between vehicles and pedestrians with pushchairs have prompted a councillor’s call for better lighting under Ben Rhydding rail bridge.
Ilkley parish councillor, Paul Kitching, says “competitive” driving through the chicane under the bridge, on Wheatley Lane, has led to drivers mounting the pavement almost hitting young mums with pushchairs.
Councillor Kitching has asked for a meeting with the Bradford Council officer to discuss safety measures such as better lighting.
He said: “As you may know the traffic priority at the bridge is ‘from the north’. However the vision on the bridge as one approaches from the south is limited and this has led to some ‘competitive’ motoring, which has on several occasions resulted in motorists mounting the pavement as they try to pass under the bridge.
“This is potentially asking for trouble.”
Cllr Kitching says the light currently under the bridge is inadequate.
