AN OTLEY choir member’s 90th birthday was celebrated with cake and — of course — song this week.

Derek Naylor, who sings with Otley Courthouse Choir, was congratulated on reaching the landmark age when the group met on Tuesday. His fellow members serenaded him with some of his favourite tunes, including Simply There, Donna Nobis and Wild Mountain Thyme, while presenting him with a birthday cake.

Mr Naylor, who joined the choir three years ago, said: “Singing keeps you young. The choir is a wonderful way of interacting socially.” Otley-born Mr Naylor grew up in Guiseley but now lives back in his hometown with his wife, Freda.

The couple have two sons and a daughter, four grandsons and granddaughters, and six great grandchildren — all of whom joined in the celebrations.

The choir meets on Tuesdays at 1.30pm to 3.30pm.
