OTLEY in Bloom is putting out an urgent appeal for more volunteers.

The group, which helped the town win a Gold Award in Yorkshire in Bloom this year, says it is “desperately” short of helpers.

Anyone who can spare an hour or two a month to assist with gardening, watering or litter-picking is asked to contact Katie Burnett at courtyardplanters@fsmail.net, telephone (01943) 462390.

A FORMER Otley art gallery has been taken over by Miss Muffets Workshop.

The new business, based at the former Bono gallery on Courthouse Street, displays and sells hand-painted ‘upcycled’ French and English furniture.

New Year’s Eve disco

AN OTLEY pub will see in the New Year with a free Hogmanay disco.

The music will continue at the Yew Tree Inn, on Newall Carr Road, into the first hour of Thursday, January 1.

Last orders will be taken at 12.30am.

Online pub tours?

‘VIRTUAL’ tours of Otley’s pubs may soon be available to view online. Otley Pub Club is considering the idea for its website after being impressed with the way one Tyneside business, the Tynemouth Lodge Hotel, has been marketing itself.

The club’s latest newsletter said: “Sometimes it can be a bit daunting to step through a pub door if you don’t know what to expect inside, so maybe this is an idea for the future.”

Collectables fair

THE next Ilkley Antiques and Collectables Fair takes place from 9.30am on Sunday, January 4 at The Clarke Foley Centre, Ilkley. For details call 01943 603299.
