A CHARITY bash at the Hollygarth Social Club will revive the old days of American-style Ilkley eaterie The Green Frog.

The family, who ran the Stateside eating house, Station Road, in the 1980s, are staging the Green Frog Charity Bash and reunion at the social club in Leeds Road, Ilkley, tomorrow from 7.30pm.

The restaurant, which gained disapproval from councillors at the time for its name, is remembered fondly by many people.

The fundraising event will raise money for the Hutho project, Help Us To Help Others. The aim is to raise money to build a school slightly inland from where the tsunami hit Sri Lanka in 2004.

The cause was set up by Mary Ellis Wood, former owner of The Green Frog, and her family.

Mary’s daughter, Jo Wood, of Mayfield Road, Ilkley, said: “The restaurant opened in October 1981 with lots of publicity from the Ilkley Gazette and 30 odd years down the line people still have great memories and talk about the Green Frog and would love for it to reopen.”

Tickets cost £10 including a snack – burgers Green Frog style. Guests can also buy a brick for £5 or a charity wristband for £1.

There will be a raffle and auction, along with music from local DJ Matthew Grimes, playing tunes from the Green Frog era.

  • Tickets are available from the Hollygarth, from Create Cafe in the Victorian Arcade, by calling 01756 760816 or at the door on the night.
