ILKLEY’S much-loved Jubilee lights will be making a swift return.

Residents and visitors have been missing the lights, which have become a part of the town centre’s attractions since they were first switched on in 2012.

Members of the public have been in touch with the Gazette, as well as Ilkley Parish Council, asking what has become of the illuminations, which were off throughout Ilkley Summer Festival street concerts and other events in August.

A statement from Ilkley Parish Council said: “A number of residents have contacted the Parish Council as they have seen the lights switched off.

“The lights are undergoing refurbishment and repair. Our contractor is working hard to ensure the lights are switched back on as soon as possible.”

The lights were installed to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012 and were part of a £40,000 spend on all-year round Christmas lights along The Grove.

The lights also went out for a period last year, following an attack by vandals.

Illuminations on Mill Ghyll, which were funded by ward councillors, and have their own power supply, have continued to light up the town at night.
