BRAMHOPE residents who are worried about speeding cars have been told the problem is not bad enough to require electronic warning signs.

A traffic survey has been carried out after complaints from local people about the speeding traffic on Old Lane. Adel and Wharfedale councillor Barry Anderson has taken up the issue with Leeds City Council’s Highways Department, and has passed on suggestions, including flashing speed signs, which have been put forward locally.

But following a survey of traffic speed he has been told the problem is not bad enough to justify the expense of installing the new signs.

An email to Cllr Anderson from the highways department said two surveys have been carried out – one by the junction with Occupation Lane and the second near the playing fields. The first survey returned a mean speed of 27.1mph, the second survey returned a mean speed of 28.1mph.

The council says that out of an average 2900 vehicles per day, 170 of them, or 5.5 per cent, were exceeding 35mph.
