ILKLEY Film Festival has announced the line-up of guests to host a live panel discussion following the screening of The Battle of Orgreave - part of Mining Visions, on Sunday , September 7 at The King's Hall, Ilkley.

The event reflects on the miners’ strike that shook Britain 30 years ago and the discussion will allow the audience to get under the skin of a time in UK history which dramatically changed the political and economic landscape of the nation.

Appearing on the panel is Anne Scargill, co-founder of the Women Against Pit Closures movement and wife of Arthur Scargill, and Peter Lazenby, key journalist for the Yorkshire Evening Post during the strikes.

The Orgreave coking plant in South Yorkshire was witness to one the strike’s most violent confrontations, and The Battle of Orgreave presents a spectacular re-enactment including former miners and policemen, reliving the events from 1984.

A live Q&A will follow the screening of Still The Enemy Within, due for national release in October. The highly anticipated, award-winning documentary weaves together archive footage of the strikes and never-before-seen interviews with a number of the miners involved. Guests include two of the protagonists in the documentary, Joyce Sheppard, who helped organise Thorne soup kitchen and Joe Henry, one the first people to protest at Orgreave. Joined by the producer of the film, Sinead Kirwan this Q&A will provide a rare opportunity to hear first-hand accounts from those close to the picket line.

Mining Visions, a day-long event, supported by Film Hub North part of the BFI Film Audience Network, includes a national preview of the critically acclaimed film Pride and Turner Prize-winning artist Jeremy Deller’s The Battle of Orgreave and the documentary The Miners Hymns.

The event is sdue to run from 1pm until 7.30pm. Tickets are available online at www.ilkleyfilmfestival.co.uk, from the Ilkley Visitor Information Centre, by phone on 01943 602319 and will be available on the door.
